Are you interested in research on the interactions between the adaptation of forest to climate change and their role in climate mitigation? We offer a PhD position in the binational (German-Canadian) graduate research training group FORSCALE – Scale effects in Forest Adaptation to Climate Cahnge. In concert with a large group of other international doctoral PhD candidates, you will investigate how forests can be actively adapted to global change. In this specific project, you will tackle the question, whether drought tolerant tree species maintain carbon sequestration at a higher level during dry periods because they allocate more carbon to belowground structures. Your main working place will be in Freiburg and you will have a longer research stay in Canada to work there on additional experiments and with co-supervisors. The position is open to international applicants.
