For decades, many smallholder farmers have been caught in a costly cycle: the over-reliance on chemical pesticides to protect their crops. This approach often provides a short-term solution while creating long-term problems, including pest resistance, environmental contamination, soil degradation, and health hazards.

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP Indonesia), in partnership with local community organizations and agricultural experts, is championing a smarter, more sustainable approach: Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This isn’t just a technique; it’s a paradigm shift in how we view our relationship with agriculture and the environment.

GEF SGP Indonesia’s Role in Action: From Knowledge to Practice
Our work transcends theory. Through targeted grants and capacity-building initiatives, we support local partners to bring IPM directly to farming communities.

1. Farmer Field Schools (FFS): We facilitate hands-on learning where farmers become experts in their own fields. They learn to regularly monitor their crops (“scouting”), correctly identify pests and beneficial insects, understand action thresholds (the point at which a pest population requires intervention), and make informed management decisions.

2. Establishing Demonstration Plots: Seeing is believing. Side-by-side comparisons of IPM-managed plots and conventional plots powerfully demonstrate IPM’s benefits: reduced input costs, healthier crops, and better yields over time.

3. Building Local Trainer Networks: We empower local champion farmers who have successfully adopted IPM to become trainers themselves. This creates a sustainable, cascading model of knowledge sharing that lasts long after a project ends.

A Call to Collaborate
The transition to sustainable agriculture is not a solitary journey. It requires the collaboration of farmers, NGOs, government agencies, researchers, and the private sector.

GEF SGP Indonesia is proud to be at the forefront of this movement, seeding knowledge that grows into lasting environmental and economic benefits. We believe that empowering farmers with science-based, ecological knowledge is one of the most effective strategies for achieving sustainable development and conserving our global environment.

We invite you to learn more and explore a potential partnership with us.

hashtag#GEFSGPIndonesia hashtag#IntegratedPestManagement hashtag#IPM hashtag#SustainableAgriculture hashtag#ClimateResilience hashtag#FoodSecurity hashtag#Biodiversity hashtag#Farmers hashtag#Agroecology hashtag#EnvironmentalProtection hashtag#LinkedInNewsIndonesia

Not forget to apply for this amazing conference!

with Eduardo de la Peña and Ghent University

https://lnkd.in/eAtaiVeM

https://www.ugent.be/bw/plants-and-crops/iscp/en

Cultivating Resilience: How Integrated Pest Management is Empowering Indonesian Farmers and Protecting Ecosystems By: Sidi Rana Menggala, PhD, on behalf of GEF Small Grants Programme Indonesia In the heart of…

[4

post-800","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-knowledge-management
["GET
