To safeguard the mangrove ecosystem in Tj Baharu protected forest, Sambas, a joint patrol was carried out across the landscape of Jawai – Tangaran, involving 13 villages.

Key objectives included:
– Installing awareness signs at forest boundaries to inform about land use restrictions and forest protection
– Mapping potential restoration sites, including a 22-hectare degraded mangrove zone in Sarang Burung Kolam
– Evaluating past mangrove planting efforts, where survival rate was affected by species selection and seasonal timing
– Monitoring vulnerable access points, both by river and land, to prevent illegal activities
– Educating nearby fish farmers on sustainable agrosilvofishery, integrating mangrove planting with aquaculture to benefit both nature and livelihoods

Mangrove forests are coastal lifelines, natural barriers, biodiversity habitats, and sources of livelihood.
