Indonesia continues to place renewable energy at the core of its national energy strategy, with a focus on scaling up geothermal development.

Despite current renewables making up only 14% of the energy mix, well below the 23% target by 2025 the government is ramping up efforts through the 2025–2034 RUPTL roadmap, aiming to add 42.6 GW of clean energy capacity.

A key milestone: 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮 and 𝗣𝗟𝗡 have partnered to develop 𝟭𝟵 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟱𝟯𝟬 𝗠𝗪, with facilitation by Danantara Indonesia. This collaboration will prioritize feasibility studies, joint execution teams, and project acceleration across key geothermal zones starting with Ulubelu (30 MW) and Lahendong (15 MW) targeting 1 GW capacity within 2–3 years.

With only 10% of its vast geothermal potential utilized, Indonesia is taking strategic steps to reduce coal reliance, cut emissions, and ensure long-term energy security.
